Moonrise at Trona

From Trona Pinnacles last weekend. The moon was rising close to sunset so it made for pretty good shooting conditions. Towards the end though it was getting pretty dark and there was over a 5 stop difference between the ground and the moon. Underexposing by 5 stops didn't get me any more moon detail it simply made the moon smaller and smaller while still bright with no detail.

So I just worked with it, and excepted there was not detail and just processed this one. The light clouds made for some kind of interesting conditions I think.

Neat image, I suspect there was no detail because a scrim of clouds covered it and only the light shown through.

Nice mood to this scene Jim. I like the detail in the foreground on the pinnacles - that makes the partially obscured moon work just fine.

Actually the contrast it does have is a last minute increase as I was just about to wrap it up. So I definitely could add more and try it out.
