After spending a few days in Java, I made my way to Labuan Bajo, another chain of islands 1 hour east of Java. Labuan Bajo is the main airport if you want to go to Komodo National park. It is also a prime destination for snorkeling and diving. Once off the main island, boat is the only mode of transportation. I had moved to this tiny island (-8.414264, 119.872094) for my 3 day visit, next day took the standard tour of some of the islands to hike/snorkel/dive with manta rays/chill. The best part was getting lucky that the boat only had 6 people aboard vs the standard 15-30 people most boats have when they leave off the main island. With just 6 people, we were able to spend extra time at places and not be rushed.

Enroute to our 1st stop Pedar island, I came across this scene and shot from the boat. There are 100s of islands like this spread in this area and you can just go to any and relax, but it could get expensive if its just 1-2 people.

The forecast was rain...and it did rain pretty much every day and everywhere I went, once we passed through the storm, it was magical.

Looks like a really serene place to hang out. I love the mood of the skies right after a storm passes and this looks like a great place for that.

The description reminds me a lot of Philippines. It is fun to island hop those small islands. I wonder if the beaches were similar to in the Philppines where you could literally walk 200' out from the beach and the water would still be below your knees. I found that so different then like at Huntinton Beach and all of the SoCal beaches where you walk out 20' and you are already up to your chest and floating in the water.

Looks like a really serene place to hang out. I love the mood of the skies right after a storm passes and this looks like a great place for that.

Yeah looked like a nice place...too bad we didn't stop...reminded me of Tom Hanks movie where he's stranded on an island

Yeah these lil islands were very tempting to stop and chill. Some of the islands had nice sandbar that you could walk on or had coral reefs that you could snorkel quiet a way. On this island the sandbar was projecting way out (waves on the right side of the frame). Saw some other sandbar areas where boats would just pull up on top...wait for tide to go out...boat is on top of the sandbar, people do picnic etc....wait for tide to come in....and float away.
