Given it has rained for 2 weeks straight I’d given up hope of photographing Jupiter close to its opposition. But last night as I was on my way home from work I looked up and there she was, shining in the sky. I quickly checked the weather and sure enough it was going to be clear for the next couple of hours.
I checked the red spot position and it was approaching transition so I quickly set up my gear, more in hope than anything.
I managed to grab a few videos and was quietly optimistic as I could see some of the surface features, something I hadn’t seen before. After grabbing a few videos I took down my gear and immediately started to work processing. The AS!3 graphs were the best I ever had. I only selected the best 10% but could have selected far more and created 5 images. I ran the 5 images through Registax and derotated them in Winjupos.
Here is the result - my best Jupiter to date
