My best Jupiter yet

Given it has rained for 2 weeks straight I’d given up hope of photographing Jupiter close to its opposition. But last night as I was on my way home from work I looked up and there she was, shining in the sky. I quickly checked the weather and sure enough it was going to be clear for the next couple of hours.

I checked the red spot position and it was approaching transition so I quickly set up my gear, more in hope than anything.

I managed to grab a few videos and was quietly optimistic as I could see some of the surface features, something I hadn’t seen before. After grabbing a few videos I took down my gear and immediately started to work processing. The AS!3 graphs were the best I ever had. I only selected the best 10% but could have selected far more and created 5 images. I ran the 5 images through Registax and derotated them in Winjupos.

Here is the result - my best Jupiter to date 🥰

Wow Danny!

That's such an awesome image of Jupiter! I am glad you had that small window to capture it. That's a lot of really nice detail on the surface of Jupiter. I think I am about a year away from doing some planetary, but I hope I can get to it soon.

What scope are you using?

Thank you. Definitely my best shot of Jupiter so far. I’m using an old c9.25. I picked it up a couple of years ago for next to nothing as it was covered in fungus. I managed to take it apart and clean the fungus off the glass and primary mirror. Amazingly when I put it back together it worked beautifully. It’s the same scope I used to capture the supernova in m101 earlier in the year. Definitely worth the gamble as I wouldn’t have been able to afford one otherwise.

Wow, what a wonderful rendition, not only the details but the colors as well. You have the GRS really showing out. I also greatly enjoy that wider view with all the moons, also even showing some colors themselves! Really great work - it seems like you have things dialed in! Consider me 'chuffed' as well :)

Thank you Mike 😊 I think everything within my control is pretty much as good as I can get it with my equipment. I’m in the lap of the weather gods now. However I have surpassed my own wildest expectations when I picked up this scope so I’m dead happy.
