My Cousin

Today in Minnesota up along Lake Superior I took the Gunflint Trail all the way to Trails End at the Boundary waters. It’s a super cool road that I really enjoyed exploring.

Along it besides the jaw dropping fall colors I was able to capture a Bald Eagle and the a Fox. So to capture a Fox on Gunflint Trail (which is the street my family lived on as we grew up) had double special meaning.

The quality may not be the best, the sun was setting and the light was getting low, and of course editing on a 4” iPhone screen doesn’t allow me to really work any details.

Thanks Alan! Rather amazing huh? I actually saw two more foxes, one last night in the harbor area of Grand Marais, and then this morning as I was leaving and heading south.

Thanks Ben. It was actually quite friendly even though I was in the middle of no where. It trotted right up to my Jeep, I had to kind of scare it back a bit so I wasn’t shooting down on it. It was almost like it wanted me to pet it. Very odd. Unless foxes are naturally friendly?

cool shot, he's a handsome fellow. foxes are usually skittish unless they've become accustomed to humans being around.

That's a healthy looking tail!

It probably had been fed by humans fairly regularly & was expecting you to do the same. They are pretty quickly domesticated (& live longer that way). there's a really interesting book on the domestication of foxes called, "How to Tame a Fox (and build a dog)". Fascinating & heartbreaking.
