New filter !

Hello All, I’ve got something to share that I’ve always had concerns about. For two years, I’ve done battle with bad halos around bright stars with my ASI 1600 MM and my budget O3 filters. I’ve tried three different ones to no avail. For Fathers Day, I asked for a premium (wink wink) version ! Well, I really hate to tell you that I just finished doing a quick process on my O3 data from last night(first chance), and can you believe it ? No Halos !!!
I’m buying tonight’s first round !
Cheers !

Wow!!! Congrats on that news! Thanks for the drinks and good news! :)

Of course… that means when I finally upgrade to a mono camera I won’t be able to buy the cheap filters like I had planned on doing… ;)

Gramps,

So don't leave us in suspense - what filter were you using previously, and what filter did you start using now to get this improved performance? I have a ZWO ASI1600MM camera myself so I am interested...

Went with the Astrodon 5nm O3. I’d tried Baader, ZWO, and Optolong in the past. I’ll try to post a comparison pic when I can.
Thanks

Gramps,

I use Astrodons myself. I have a 5nm Hα (to also pass the Nitrogen line) and 3nm OIII and SII. They work very well, but they are expensive. I may be in the market for another camera at some point and am always interested to see how other (potentially cheaper) filters might do on this sort of thing.

You will be very happy with the Astrodon performance though - they are hard to beat technically. I have heard that Chroma filters are close, but they are also now at the same high price point, so no joy there :)

Thanks for the info.
