NGC 3372 A corner of the nebula that caught my interest.
This target was taken across two third quarter moon nights and consists of 20 x 300s each of Sii, Ha and Oiii data mapped to the Hubble palette (SHO).
Uncropped except for slight trimming after stacking.
Skywatcher 8" f4 Quattro Newtonian
Skywatcher NEQ6 Pro hypertuned
Skywatcher Aplanatic Coma Corrector
Primaluce Sesto Senso Electronic Focuser
ZWO ASI183MM Pro Imaging Camera
ZWO ASI290mm Mini guide cam

Carlos, this is so awesome! It's amazing the light coloring and detail. I would never have even known there was a photo to get from that.

Thanks Jim ! The main nebula of Carina is the usual target for most astrophotogs. This one is on the fringe and caught my eye due to its resemblance of a witch's side profile haha !

You are right! It does have a resemblance to the Witch nebula!

I am going to be asking you for advice at whatever point I am able to travel to the Southern Hemisphere because I will bring a small tracker and some setup specifically to get this Nebula. This is a fun detail image of a portion of it. I do see the resemblance to the Witchhead!

How do you like the ZWO NB filters? I use different filters on my ASI1600, but I amy end up buying a new camera from them (the mono version of the ASI2600) and I am always looking to see what people think of the filters they use, as the cost of filters can exceed the cost of the camera.

Hi Mike ! Yes hit me up next time you are in our hemisphere/region/city. I'm probably not the best person for a tracker setup but I know a guy haha ....

The ZWO filters are okay. I am living with the bright star halos for the moment...patiently haha, till I get the Antlia 3nm set and I agree with you about the cost of filters. I am also considering another camera, either the 2600MM or the QHY version which seems to have better specs...full well specifically, something like 90K at 5% gain!

Cheers

Carlos,

Very good. I have heard about halo issues with the ZWO filters. I have Astrodons on my ASI1600MM in a 5nm/3nm/3nm Hα/OIII/SII config to allow the close in NII line to pass along with the Hα, but if I get another camera with a larger sensor like the ASI2600MM I have heard and seen some nice things about the Antila filters too, not the least of which is the pricing which is much reduced over Astrodon or Chroma. I do like the very narrow wavelengths as I think it does help contrast. I guess they just came out with Pro versions that run at 3nm instead of the previous 3.5nm and appear to be better on very bright targets.

As far as the QHY version of the APS-C mono camera I mentioned above, I have had really bad luck with the software/firmware/drivers on a previous QHY product so I do not think I would consider them. I would also be surprised if there is any significant real world difference in the sensor specs between the QHY version and the ZWO version as they use exactly the same Sony sensor. There have been some other discrepancies in the published specs between the 2 companies. I expect once a number of these get out in the wild it will be shown that they both behave essentially identically, whichever spec set is correct.

The entire Australia / New Zealand area is on my bucket list. Really hope to get down there someday, both to do some simple astro and to do some scenic phoitography which si my other love. Since I am a ham radio operator I have talked to a few of folks from Australia - always very friendly and fun!

Yes, I tend to agree with you on the QHY brand so haven't tried any of their products yet apart from the Polemaster which has been flaky at times with SharpCap Pro. The local group I am in has members that have gone the QHY268MM way so will be interesting to see how that pans out. For me, I'd like to stay with ZWO as I have had good experiences so far.
