NGC6888 - the Crescent Nebula

Got home from work at 11pm on saturday night and it was a perfectly clear sky. In the UK you never turn that down 😂. I quickly set up my gear and got about 4 hours of data before sunrise. I could do with adding some more Oiii data and I’d like some RGB for natural stars but pretty happy with this for a photo of opportunity 🔭 NGC6888 - the Crescent Nebula

Welcome to FocalWorld! :)

It’s really great to have you join us. This is such an awesome Nebula! Such cool detail in this. For some reason this reminds me of the jelly in jelly donuts and now I am hungry!

It’s hard to think of this being improved on because it looks so awesome now.

Well you have me hungry for more of your Astro work! :)

😂😂 thank you! I’ve had people say it looks like a brain, a fetus, a walnut but never the jam from a donut 🍩 Good to be on board 👍🏻

Love the closeup view of this amazing object, especially in narrowband, which I am partial to myself. I do enjoy adding in the RGB stars, but even without that this is a very nice image. It is of course also always a situation where one feels like more OIII could be useful, compared to the almost always dominant Hα signal, but you do seem to have that shock front on the leading edge showing up, so to me that says you have a nice mix here even if you don't get back to this for a while. Glad you took such great advantage of those rare clear skies!
