Night Blooming cactus

it is that time of year when the decorative (non native) cactus put out large night blooms - here are a couple from our RV park - 2 different types with such big flowers

Both of these are really cool Marcy! Love those bees in the first one, but both are great.

Now if these are night blooming cactus, I was thinking the blooms would only open up at night. But I guess not? What's up with the name?

they open during the late evening and get to full blossom at night and stay out for most of the day and fade by 24 hours
