North Carolina Colors

A trip back east to North Carolina to see friends also produced a couple of good days of photo opportunities and the autumn colors in the higher elevations did not disappoint. here are 3 of my favorites from the trip. As always, comments and critiques most welcome!

Elk against some fall foliage in Great Smoky Mountain National Park - the weather that day was poor, but I did get this capture near the southern entrance to the park.

Amazing Display along the Blue Ridge Parkway - the weather our 2nd full day was much better, with a really pleasing mix of clouds and sun. Here is a pano from along the parkway with the colors really popping.

Later in the week a hike through some of the forest near Asheville really revealed the amazing variety of colors and species of trees at this time of year. This image was my favorite from that day hike.

Very cool Mike. That's a great area for fall colors. I was back there a few years ago in the fall and it was fun. The Great Smoky Mountain NP was really enjoyable, but I didn't much care for the way everyone gets funneled into and out of it. Did you get some waterfalls? That was my favorite part as there are waterfalls every where.

Beautiful color show in all three of these images. I am a little partial to the first image with the overcast skies adding some saturation to the colors.

I did get 2 waterfalls on the same hike that produced the last image. I am still deciding if the one is postworthy - here is the other one. It is called Toms Spring Falls, and at this time of year has very little water going over it, but that makes for an interesting view, along with the totally vertical perspective from the trail. We had a longer distance we wanted to hike so I just took it looking almost straight up.

wonderful set. love the elk in the first one. the weather might be crap, but it helps out with the fall foliage.
