I caught this Costa's Hummingbird in the Palo Verde tree in my backyard this evening.
This guy is only three and one-half inches long.Skinny little dude. The hummers we have around us are fat compared to this guy. Nice shot.
Thanks, Jim. I use a 500mm lens and always attempt to have the sun at my back early in the morning or late in the day. I shoot one to two stops under and then process it in Lightroom and Photoshop to bring up the brightness. I use ISO 400 and usually shoot at f-stop 6.3 so that I have a high shutter speed to stop movement of these quick little critters.Totally amazing Doug! Really amazing! I can count on 1 hand the # of Hummingbird shots I have, and they are usually blurry and too small... There is just something magical about Hummingbirds.
This seems lit up really nice, do you use a flash to help light them up?
Thanks, Mike.He looks like a tough little guy with that fancy top knot. Excellent shot.
Thank you, Carlo.Talk about a colorful character
