These were taken in 2015/16 and I used a Nikon D800 and D810. The belt and sword were taken with a Nikon 300mm f/2.8 guided on an AstroTrac, single exposure, 180 seconds exposure time. No flats or darks, just a single shot at ISO 800.

the horse head was also a single image (I don’t like to stack), with a Nikon 500mm f/8 mirror lens. ISO 2500 for five minutes guided on the AstroTrac

Very cool Todd! It's great to have more people posting their Deep Space Astro here!

These both are really great, especially for single shot images. I don't know what you feel about Star Reduction, but my only suggestion would be for #2 to get a little Star Reduction. There are some Photoshop Actions that will do it. I have been running them on mine, and I like them because it doesn't remove the stars, it just reduces them, and eliminates some of the smaller stars which then causes the nebulas/Galaxies to stand out a little better.

Again, both look really nice, and your #1 image reminds me that I have been thinking that I wanted to capture Horsehead Nebula again.

Are you still actively shooting Deep Space?

As for reducing stars, I like the idea. I don’t have photoshop so I can’t do that. As for actively shooting the sky, not so much anymore. Too much light pollution here & I don’t get out to dark skies often, too far away. I still desire astrophotography but I don’t have a location for it at this time.
