Passing Storm

Not even close to being tired of this place - especially with this addition. I love the striations in the rock face and seeing the river at the bottom for a sense of scale with some nice skies above. Neat shot.

How awesome Alisa! This looks fantastic! I really like how the storm is being lit up. I hope my shots from there turn out even half as good.

What a wonderful image, Alisa. This is a classic area for intrusive igneous geology. Those lighter lines are called dikes and are formed when magma from a source below this area wells up into cracks in the overlying rocks. I wish I had had the opportunity to take this image under these conditions. I would have sold it a bunch of times for geology textbooks.

Thanks for sharing these. This is my favorite so far - the pegmatite bands on The Painted Wall add so much interest.

I agree with the group here, this is a much stronger image, nice seeing the river that carved this canyon. Do you have a vertical take on this Alisa? I think that bush could add more FG interest and have a bit more river shone.

Bravo! This is my back yard and I have been up there a time or two. But I have a hard time processing my images, the lighting never seems to be quite right. You have done an excellent job with it!

Right now it's filled with smoke :(

This is a very dramatic shot Alisa, I love the look of those bands in the cliff and the sky is awesome. This is a place we have all probably seen while driving through, but we see very few images taken here and now we have, and what a delight that is.

Great drama for an often foreboding place, Alisa! I know of so many tragedies, epics & near-epics that have unfolded here and this mood suits it perfectly.

Alisa: One of the best pictures I've seen of Black Canyon; the marbleized walls with the stormlight above are striking.
