Not sure how far I would be willing to ride without a helmet anymore. I grew up riding long before we cared about helmets (or had ones worth wearing) but once I heard a neurosurgeon comparing working on patients with cycling head injuries to dropping a squash on the pavement I got helmet religion. Some of the worst head knocks (wearing a helmet) I have taken were actually at slow speeds.

I think for some reason at slower speeds we stop slower because we percieve it as less dangerous, but at higher speeds our body somehow blocks our heads from getting hit more often, (unconsciously) , whereas at slower speeds our head ends up being the wall...
