My eldest daughter taught for a year in 'Tuk' which is an Inuvialuit community on the Arctic Ocean at the mouth of the Mackenzie river. We were there in late February when the sun would rise to the horizon for a short period and then disappear. The pingo is formed by permafrost pushing the overlying ground upwards. The split pingo in the image stood about 150 feet tall.
