Pingo near Tuktoyaktuk, Northwest Territories

My eldest daughter taught for a year in 'Tuk' which is an Inuvialuit community on the Arctic Ocean at the mouth of the Mackenzie river. We were there in late February when the sun would rise to the horizon for a short period and then disappear. The pingo is formed by permafrost pushing the overlying ground upwards. The split pingo in the image stood about 150 feet tall.

The shapes the wind has carved into the hardened snow surface are quite beautiful. So is this basically high noon for February up there? Neat light when you get some.

That's so amazing! How cool you got to visit there too. Love all of the shapes and lines in this.
