White-winged crossbills are irruptive finches that will move to the next good food source of which their beaks are specialized for getting hard to harvest seeds from conifer cones. Males are pink, females yellowish green.

They are a northern bird that is usually only seen in winter around these parts. These were at Salisbury Beach in northern MA. Some were so unafraid of humans that I almost stepped on a female and I saw another walk and feed under a person's bent leg that was down on one knee at their tripod.

These cross bills are so cool Debbie! I am enjoying seeing male and female versions. I feel like I am learning more about birds from your posts.

And that's crazy how unafraid of humans they are.
