Puffin in Flight

I'm not good at birds in general, and have no worthwhile experience at BIF. That said, here's my best attempt at a flying puffin. Who knew that they'd be so quick...

Kyle,

BIF is hard as hell to master and I think you did a damn fine job here. How much leeway do you have to crop with? I'd love to get this tighter, especially because the puffin's face and bill are seemingly tack sharp. Looks like you've got wing-to-wing sharpness to boot.

Background is not perfect but pretty solid! I see a little blue weirdness on the near wing and you might want to consider closing out the white spot below the bird as well as the bright blue one in the lower-left. It could also improve if you cropped more from the left and opened up some negative space to the right for it to 'fly' into. If you want me to shut my rambling mouth and move on, just say so.:D

I'm really hoping that you've got pixels to work with here!!

Very nice job especially if BIF ain't your bag.

Thanks a lot Jeff, I really appreciate the thoughts. I still have some room to crop, although I've definitely already cropped some. Good ideas on the spots too. I'll make another pass with your advice in mind and see how it goes.

Yw Kyle! Dig the shot - puffins are gorgeous birds. I wonder if they can fly as fast as they swim? If you ever feel like I am overstepping bounds with any crits just shoot em a PM and I'll pump the brakes. I just love critique.:)

No worries at all. I'm always interested in how people see things. Sometimes they are things I've already considered (like some of the crops) and sometimes it's something I missed (like the obvious white spot). I'm here for the conversation.

They are surprisingly fast and agile in the air. Not quite to the level of sparrows, but it seemed like a similar struggle for me.

Kyle, this is great stuff experienced or nom to catch them against a background like this and get sharp focus is great. Jeff gave some great tips as well.

This is about as much as I want to crop. I cleaned up the spots and took some blue out of the wing as well.
