Purple Mountain Majesty

I took a break form the marathon editing weekend I had and went back to the images from my one day in Mount Rainier National Park last year. I get to go back to Seattle next month, and am hoping that weather permits me a chance to go back to the park...I know it won't be the magical experience that my first visit was...but I can hope that its a good one. I will never forget the feeling when Rainier emerged from the clouds, just in time for sunset, after having been completely obscured the entire rest of the day.

Nice - I like seeing Rainier with clouds swirling around the peak.

Normally this time of year the odds of the mountain being visible are pretty much a given since the NW tends to dry out right around the 4th of July but we have been having more cloudy weather so far this year including some rain. July and August are usually our driest months with completely cloudless skies.

I have had that same experience. But when it shows, it shows big. Very nice image you have here Travis.
It was certainly one of my most memorable experiences when out shooting...thanks for the kind words.

Well that sure makes me feel good about my chances next month then...I have only been to Seattle twice, once in July and once in December, and in July the mountain was only visible, a little, once. The rest of that trip was pretty cloudy. December was much the same, rain and clouds. So I will take clear skies, it will pair nicely with the wildflowers and reflections I will be chasing.

I never get tired of seeing Mt Rainier! This is really nice, I am glad you took a break to process this.

Don't ever count out Mt Rainier from not being magical. :) That is one location that has more of it's share of magical moments.

Let us know when you are going, I might be up in Mt Rainier next month too.

I was in a Rainier kind of mood...I had already edited and shared images from there last year...but each composition was different...it felt criminal to leave them sitting...I am sure that it can provide magical conditions all the time...and I am hoping for clear, clean reflections in a mountain lake...I will be up there from the 22nd through the 26th of August. I am participating in a workshop on Saturday and Sunday, but have that Friday and Monday to myself to explore. Would be pretty cool if it happened to overlap or if anyone wanted to meet up.

Don't feel lie the Lone Ranger, Travis. I had a field class of 20 students in early August one year and it rained for five straight days. We wee literally floating in our tents. I had to describe everything I was teaching because you couldn't see the mountain. The day we left it dawned bright, sunny and cold.

Lovely delicate light!
Thanks Barry...it was such soft light after the sun went down...I shot a whole series of images as the light faded off the mountain and turned over to this...

I can imagine that it was not a lot of fun to be soaked like that...especially when camping.

Travis.. very nice.
Rainier never disappoints if you can’t see the mt. Then you can always shoot all the beautiful running water around the park. I spent a week up there a few years ago and realized you could spend your whole life shooting in the park and still need more time. Have fun up there, looking forward to seeing what you get.
Regards,
Dean
