This is a "throw back Thursday" shot from Sedona, taken in December of 2004 on color negative film with my Canon Elan 7 camera and Tokina 20-40 lens.

It's fun to wade into the old collections to see what happens when you try current digital imaging tools on legacy captures. How are you scanning the negatives?

I actually paid someone to scan them for me at the time. I get tempted every now and then to set up a rig to digitize them with my camera.

I have been trying to research the easiest way for me to do this myself and what I am doing for color positive images won't really work for negatives. Not sure I want to buy a dedicated scanner for them. I shot with negative film for about 10 years during the 1990's but not a lot of serious landscape work.

A Konica-Minolta Dimage Elite 4500 scanner does both positive and negative film. They don't make them anymore but you can find them on ebay. I had one and gave it to a buddy last year. I see however they are going for about $450 but once in a while you can find a bargin. It was a good scanner.

Nice job on this one, Kyle. This area is getting overgrown now and this image is not easy to take anymore.

Hi Kyle,

The leading line from the mini-falls to the peaks is really cool. My only issue is that the visual weight of the trees on the left overwhelms the trees on the right putting the image off balance.

Very nice image. It does have a classic look to it. At first I too was influenced by the weight of the trees, but it only took a bit for all of it to fit, with the spotlight effect and the little splash of light on the edges.

I struggle with that too. Sometimes a crop this to a 4x5 and even things out some.
