Bart Carrig, Larry Zink and I , 3/4 of the East coast contingent of Focal World :) made a quick run to Ricketts Glen State Park outside Scranton PA. This is an amazing gorge with 23 named waterfalls , a 6 mile loop trail and beautiful stretches of the river. Camping on site and an overall great place to spend time as a photographer. We arrived Thursday afternoon to not great light but incredible amounts of water. We did the upper loop that afternoon and the lower loop the next morning. Lots to share but here are the first 4.
What I love about the early spring here is the fresh green for both its color potential and tonal potential for b/w images. For the B/W , add the green filter which gives an almost infra red feeling .
Here are a few for the first post. All comments welcome and thanks for viewing, regards, Dean

Sounds like a beautiful place, Dean. With all the snow & grey we've been having here in Colorado's Front Range, I was particularly appreciating your color shots. What do you think of cropping a bit off the bottom of both of them?

Beautiful area and some great waterfall shots. I particularly like the second image. The backlit woods are a delightful backdrop.

Very nice work Dean! It's great that you 3 got together. Hopefully Bart and Larry will post some photos from that trip too, it would be great to see their perspectives and also their photos are missed here.

All 4 of these are great. #1 and 4 are my favorites. I really like the wide sweeping feel of the water and how the eye is pulled back to the forest in the background.

Great set, Dean. It is not easy to get pleasing images in a forest. Man, you easterners get all the water, too!

Thanks Jim for the DFP.
Thanks to all for your comments and suggestions it greatly appreciated.

Monica,
Thanks for your ideas its always great to get more eyes and input on images, I'll be looking at crops for my prints. I was trying to maintain some lead in flow lines for the first fg features with out cramping them with these crops just to put my thinking in context for you.
Regards,
Dean

Anybody heading this way can certainly get in touch with me and I will be happy to share what ever info I can - great place to shoot in the fall as well. I understand it gets pretty crowded on the weekends -week days are better.

Each time I think I'm going to pick a favorite, I change my mind. I guess that means I like the set. I'd love to explore that area for sure. I do think the last two in particular could lose a little off the bottom, which would give a little more weight back to the forest, but I can see why you wanted that strong water flow...

Beautiful series, Dean. You did a great job on each of these. And thanks for getting me out of the long winter doldrums and tedium of work. It was a great trip. And I've even got a few to post.

Congratulations on the featured post as well. Well deserved.

Bart
