Rosette Nebula with a DSLR

The Rosette Nebula

This beautiful deep-sky object is a large nebula located in the constellation Monoceros. It is a cosmic cloud of gas and dust that lies approximately 5000 light-years away and has a flower-like appearance.
The petals of this rose are actually a stellar nursery where new stars are being born. The colorful hydrogen gas and embedded open star cluster (NGC 2244) make this a perfect Valentine deep-sky target.
This image was taken last Thursday when a couple of hours of clear skies appeared from the backyard.

I sure like this Keith! I love the coloring of the and how the stars are under control. I captured the Rosette last month, but my stars got out of control on me, and I think I need to start processing. It over from the beginning. I used some star reduction techniques like I normally do, but for some unknown reason, the artifacts from the removal look worse then the stars.

How do you like that William Optics refractor? I am thinking on getting one of them. Currently I am using my Tamron 150-600mm.

Great result on an iconic object! Looks like the filter is helping out your results. Good colors in both the nebulosity and the stars.

I have an older OSC image of this shot with a cooled astro camera that I mistakenly had subframing enabled on, so only got the central portion. This is on myn list to retake soon, maybe on this next remote astro session that is supposed to start for me in a week or so.

In any case, a great result, thanks for sharing!

Another lovely image Keith. I haven’t done any DSO imaging yet and the PNW isn’t a place conducive to it most of the year. However I am really enjoying images like these posted here.

Im amazed at the quality of the Z73 and an inexpensive camera...this is only one of four Deep Space images I've taken....for the last three years I've been using a Mak180 and ZWOASI224 MC to capture the Moon at f/15

I will have to look into the Z73 some more, William Optics seems to make some really good optics that are reasonably priced. I had been looking more into the Redcat/Spacecat lens series. I am getting my money's worth out of the SkyGuider Pro, but my next purchase will end up being a new mount so that I will have GoTo ability. Sometimes when I am trying to find objects in the sky it can feel like I am looking for a needle in a haystack, so I want to get a mount I can tell where to go shoot at. Then it will be a lens, and then a camera. I think anyway that's the order. :)

It looks like you are doing really good with the DSO then, even if you have only taken 4 of them so far, it seems you are really on track!
