Salvage Saturday

Time to show your old, reprocessed images. Pile on.

Today I am showing a scanned slide from oct 1982 on Kodachrome 25 film. This is probably taken along the Coeur d'Alene River in north Idaho.

You had great skills then too, Ben. The slightly reddish tones of Kodachrome 25 ae still a bit evident. Did you have to work hard to get the color balance right?

Thanks Douglas, I do some color correction/desat in post, but I like the warm look. probably from all my time with Kodachrome

Here is an image I have struggled with for a long time. The main issue is the color of the foreground rocks. They look very reddish. It had rained about a half hour before I took this image. So, the fact they are more reddish may have to do with that. I am able to tone the reds down, but I never have gotten the color I want. Suggestions are welcome.

Douglas, I love this image and I think the colors are fine, but I have a bias toward warm. I have stood in that same spot but not with nearly as much water. I spent a lot of time cleaning out the junk floating on the water, you got a nice clean reflection.

Going back to the days of the original 5D, I shot this in Churchill, Manitoba on a trip to capture Polar Bears. Woke up in the middle of the night and saw northern lights. Didn't last long and managed to capture what I could. I should also note I had no experience shooting night scenes. In any case this was a very noisy image. I had not bothered to process this. Just did this today for this thread.

Doug, I like your edit—nicely done. Good composition and I agree with Ben the warm colors work well here.

I thought I saw your tripod holes there.

Really glad you reprocessed this one, Auroras are a rare treat for most of us.

I haven't visited this location and so cannot relate to how accurate the rock colors are. They do look nice to me. I would however reduce some cyan in the sky however.

Jameel, your edit appears perfect to me not having seen the northern lights—the “southern lights” in Tennessee do not compare! Bring any polar bears home?
