Salvage Saturday

I dug a little deep for this one - dating back to my Ektachrome days with poor quality E-6 processing and nasty color shifts. The salvage effort only barely leaves this as a passable image.

The subject is an early view of Fountain Hills near the Phoenix area in 1970 when it was first being carved out of the desert. Robert McCullough used earth moving equipment with techniques typical of a strip mine to recontour the desert into something more suitable for building endless houses and golf courses.

Empress hotel in Victoria BC at dusk. This was underexposed quite a bit to protect the highlights and I should have bracketed it. I was able to push the shadows quite a bit and let Topaz do its magic. Taken with 1Ds Mark II back in the day.

sweet recovery

This is my contribution. This is an image of Fire Valley in the Valley of Fire State Park, NV Little color is visible in the original sky because it is overexposed, and the foreground is bland and underexposed.

great job. Not so hard these days to get shadow but hard to recover blown. This is nice on both counts
