Sandhill Cranes Amongst Snow Geese

These Sandhill Cranes are strolling through Snow Geese as they are getting ready to take off for their morning feeding grounds at Bosque del Apache Wildlife Refuge, NM

The reason they can't take off with all of these Snow Geese around is that they need a running start to get going.

Surprising how much bigger the sandhill cranes are compared to the snow geese. Sandhill cranes pass through our area and I have seen them wandering around in areas with Canadian geese and they don't stand out as much as they do here.

Nice contrast.
