Seal Island Sunrise

This one is a little landscape, a little wildlife.

Probably the most intense and amazing sunrise I've ever seen while en route to Seal Island with Apex Shark Expeditions, headed by the amazingly talented Chris Fallows. On the ride out there we knew it was going to be a site to behold, but no one expected what we got to witness. We actually stopped scanning for seal predations because we were so blown away by the sunrise. Chris, who has been in the area for quite some time, said he's never seen anything like it.

The pic does not do actual scene justice, but I still like it. If anything, I had to decrease Sat a bit for these!

You know that when you've got a world-renowned wildlife photographer taking a sunrise pic that it's a special moment.

If anyone is unfamiliar with Chris Fallows then you definitely need to check his body of work involving sea life, especially breaching white sharks. Stunning would be an understatement!

That looks like the sort of scene that can simply overwhelm your camera's sensors. No surprise you needed to scale back sat/luminance to get a realistic result. Playing with the silhouettes must have been a blast - I like what you got with all three of these. No way I am going to pick a favorite.

You are totally right, Alan! Lots of colors that current sensors have issues rendering - very easily blown without a little help. I'm glad you like them!

Cheers, Darcy! I have been seriously slacking on printing and I've only got a few pics from the last 6 years (when I started) printed on the wall. But I recently bought a printer for the house and will definitely put some time in pulling the remaining hair I have out while fighting with color profiles. Maybe that's why I prefer B&W lol.

Great set, but that second with the seals silhouetted against that great sky is a killer shot. The fact that the seals are more prominent and instantly recognizable sets it apart from the first to me.

The last is also very nice and is more of an environmental shot showing the larger scene.
