Sedona in Winter

This is the last of a series showing the four season of Sedona, AZ. Unfortunately, it doesn't snow very often here but when it does it can be spectacular. You should be aware that the snow doesn't last very long unless there is a lot of it. It is often gone before mid-afternoon.

This is a scene from a pull out on Red Rock Loop Road just past the High School.

This is a view from a pull out along Route 179 at Bell Rock and the Courthouse. This was a significant snowfall.

This is a view of Mitten Ridge from Schnebly Hill Road. It is hard to take this image now because the forest service will close the road when it snows. This road is also in horrible shape making it difficult to get to this overlook without four wheel drive.

This is from Fay Canyon. Notice that the snow is melting fast enough to create a waterfall just to the right and below the major butte in this image.

This is a view from Yavapai Vista Trail just off of route 179.

Last, but not least, this is one of the many ways to shoot Cathedral Rock. This view is along Oak Creek at Crescent Moon Recreational Area (Red Rock Crossing) late in the day.

Doug: Those are very nice indeed. They certainly have the red rock beauty, especially in the snow, of all of the great southwest locations. And the terrain (and the river) fit beautifully. Well done.

Wow - very nice. I really like your shot of Cathedral Rocks - that one hits a lot of buttons for me.

I have visited Sedona quite a number of times in different seasons including with some light snow but not since the late 70's and have few images to remember it by. This whole series has been a fun memory trip for me.

These are fantastic, no doubt Doug you were fortunate in your travels.
The third and fourth float to the top on this series and of course the river shot:)

Hey Doug, again just some amazing photos here! I have come to this thread a few times now today trying to pick some favorites, but I just can't! All are unique and special.

Fabulous series of shots here - and fabulous series altogether! You have certainly whetted my appetite to visit this area which I have never yet seen. There is so much drama in these rock formations - certainly added to by the now.

The problem you have presented to me with these spectacular posts is...............which season to go? o_O

All of these are very nice - red rocks and snow alwAys work for me. But the misty clouds and blue sky really set these off. I like the second best, but that could just be because I've always liked that viewpoint.

Thanks again for the psych to visit your beautiful home area. These are my favorites in the series, the contrast of rock, snow, and sky is very patriotic! I just wish our president and some of his decision makers could get out for a few days emerged in such an environment to get a true feel for the land they manage.

Thanks, Zeph. I did travel to this area before I moved here but the best images I have gotten were when I could just jump In my car and photograph what was going on.

I'm glad you have enjoyed it, Alan. I am lucky to live here.
