SH2-54 - creation moment

Looking at this deep sky object I feel like I am seeing just after the moment of creation. For me, there is a sense of power that is violent but engaging and beautiful. It is in the neighborhood of the Eagle and Omega Nebulas and contains almost no Oiii. Still, this version is derived from an HOO beginning. I included a starless version just for fun!

Scope - FSQ106n
Camera - ASI071MC cool
Mount - CEM70G
Controller - ASIAIR pro
Filter 1 - L-extreme
Filter 2 - Triad Ultra

7.8 hours integration of 4 and 5 minute sub-exposures
June 25, 26, 27, 28 - oh the joy of very short darkness!

Looks like a giant fireball special effects for an action movie - especially the starless version. Amazing sight - nice work.

It does have a very Creation feel to it Andy!

I like the starless view. I know some astrophotographers don't like it without stars, but maybe because I am new to Astrophotography I enjoy seeing it without stars sometimes. I think you can better "see" the details of the the DSO.

I just noticed you are using ASIair Pro. I started using one a few months back, and it's been a learning experience, but I really like using it. One of my last questions with it has to do the exposure histogram, and trying to understand what it's showing so I can know whether to lengthen or shorter my exposures. Can I post a screen cap of a histogram and have you tell me what the numbers are telling me? I would post it in a new thread so as to not hijack your thread here.

The best I have been able to understand about that histogram is this: If it is just a bit off the left side, then I am ok. The numbers are probably more helpful. I forget if it says average or mean, but that is the one to watch. If it is to high, the image will become washed out. I also use the histogram by spreading it out with the PLUS sign then raising the left side and decreasing the right side with the sliders, so I can get a slightly better view of the preview. Remember the preview is just of a VERY small jpg that is created only for the preview purposes.
