I was lucky enough to visit Myanmar in 2018, a truly amazing experience it was. Great people, great food and lot of "remember when" stories. I could've easily spent a month there but unfortunately only had about 10 days to spare. in 2022 I was making plans to head back there, and the coup happened, at this point I'm not certain when I'll be back there, talking to friends there and for now they say to sit tight.
Shwezigon Pagoda in Bagan is one of the most beautiful and oft photographed. The mornings are nice and cool, overnight low temperatures keep the air cool and when the farmers wake up firing up the wood burning kitchen stoves, the smoke just lingers creating a nice low floating layer.
Bagan, Myanmar is a truly magical place, filled with awe-inspiring temples and pagodas that seem to transport you to another time. And there's no better way to experience the beauty of Bagan than by watching the sunrise over the ancient temples.
As the first rays of light break over the horizon, the sky turns from a deep blue to a golden orange hue. The pagodas, which have been silhouetted against the dark sky, are now bathed in a warm glow, creating a breathtaking scene. Standing on the terrace of one of the many pagodas in Bagan, you can see the vast expanse of the Bagan plain dotted with over 2,000 ancient temples and pagodas. As the sun slowly rises higher in the sky, the shadows cast by the pagodas grow shorter and the intricate carvings and details on the temples become clearer.
The atmosphere during sunrise in Bagan is one of tranquility and serenity, as the only sounds you can hear are the soft chirping of birds and the rustling of leaves in the breeze. It's a moment of peaceful reflection, as you watch the world wake up and begin another day.
As the sun reaches its peak and the sky turns a deep blue once again, you can't help but feel grateful for the experience of witnessing such a beautiful sunrise over the ancient temples of Bagan. It's a memory that will stay with you forever and a reminder of the stunning natural beauty that can be found all around us.
I met Richard Gere there...total coinkidink...he was riding his bicycle...and me...doing what i usually do...sitting by a roadside stall having a local beer. Nice fella.
