Some trial shots

I have been working with the Pro-Capture feature on my OM-1 camera. These were taken from inside my house at my heated water source for birds. It is in my backyard with my white garage door behind it. The camera holds up to 120 frames a second in a buffer and then when you sense movement (eg. bird flies away) you fully depress the shutter and the last 50 frames are saved to memory.
This Yellow-shafted Northern Flicker was drinking at the water bath so I waited until it flew away and pressed the shutter. I saved these two shots out of the 50 and tried to figure out what to do with the bad background.
I decided to process through Topas-Denoise AI and then used Photoshop's sky replacement feature.

Amazing captures - neat feature on your camera. I like the first one with the garage door backdrop better than the sky replacement. The light just feels more natural as is. Sky replacement's biggest problem in general is realistically matching the light source on the subject. Its not an easy task.

The second shot is a really nice pose for the bird - beautiful profile of the markings.

Thanks Alan... I agree the replacement is difficult on many levels. I think a better solution would be a coloured, textured cover for the garage door.

Hey Trent! What a cool idea to have that heated water for the birds. That's a super cool looking one. And the feature your camera has to shoot so fast, is just crazy! I am not as picky with sky replacements when it comes to birds as opposed to a landscape, where essentially it's a never does it feel right. But with birds, I don't know, I think it looks good. Maybe thats the novice in me when it comes to bird photography?

Hmmmm. Perhaps you are prone to hyperbole Eric!!
The pro capture feature on the OM-1 is quite an interesting way to capture images. Once set up correctly the camera does all the work. Since background can be so important I was trying to replace the garage door with sky and I don't think it works well.. Maybe I'll just be happy to show the bird as it was seen. Thanks for your support.
