Sort of a Mineral Moon

I don't quite have the hang of doing Mineral Moons yet, that's where the moon instead of being white has the saturation pushed so that the minerals on the moon surface can be seen. This one isn't perfect by any means, the darker gray areas tend to be blue I think, but I didn't get any of that this time.

Taken yesterday, it's the full moon, I think the largest full moon of the year?

Hey Ben, a mineral moon is cool to me since you get to see the minerals that make up the moon. Of course, a well done mineral moon will look better. There are some tricks to getting a moon really look like a mineral moon. As you can tell, I haven't been able to get this tricks to work yet. :)

So this made me look up images of mineral moon online. I ended up with atleast a half dozen different shades. I wonder if this really is the color of the minerals there (and how it shows up from here through the atmosphere) or just people trying different looks with the processing.

I ended up doing the same thing just to educate myself on what the mineral moon was supposed to look like. Got the same range of results you did and ended up with the same questions.

Ditto, you and Jameel inspired me to also look it up and I have the same response. Jims is more subdued than most of them and much more belivable.

Thanks you guys.

You guys know I like a bit of saturation, so I think it's cool when there are more colors in the moon for a Mineral Moon. :)

And yeah, there is a technique to pull out those colors, but also to Jameel's question, there is a lot variance, and that comes from different people pushing the processing in different ways I think.

Now I will say, and I don't know which ones you guys saw, that there are some truly ugly mineral moons out there too. Where guys have just gone a bit crazy.
