Still Soaring

Driving up along the coast after some awesome Clam Chowder in Pismo Beach I just had to stop in at Morro Bay as sunset was quickly approaching. My goal was to set up and shoot more timelapse, and as I was setting my D850 up for the timelapse I saw this seagull flying through the scene and I quickly took some shots. I think it turned out nice.

The boat on the left it looks like it's pole on the left side is getting distorted by wide angle distortion, but it was actually bent to that angle. I thought briefly about trying to do some Lens correction, but if I straighten the curved pole it would be near impossible to not have it then bend the straight one next to it. And also if you look at the masts on the right side, they are all straight. Those would be curved in also if there had been WA distortion.

All comments are welcome,

Jim

Jim,
This is a beautiful image crooked pole or not. It was not necessary for the long explanation of the crooked pole because as you point out the poles next to it are perfectly straight.

One of the better shots I have seen of that bay. I wouldn't be concerned about the booms not appearing straight.

Lovely image jim. That boom is slanted backwards both are but the left one seemed more pronounced because of your angle to it. An optical illusion

Thanks Bob, I am glad you liked it.

I actually decided right after I posted this that I had rambled on too long and went to edit that part out and lost cell service at the same time the WiFi at the hotel I am at in Cambria went kaput... so I appreciate you saying my explanation wasn’t needed.

🤑 Jim I think it’s definitely hardware issues. Time for a couple new bodies and a handful of lenses. More travel will help too. But probably not the ice caves this year. The Bayfield harbor is nor frozen over yet.

You need a drone too. But it sounds like you want to stick to the smaller drone not requiring a license. If I hear anything different on the ice caves I will send the information on.

Ha ha, thanks Tim! Yeah, I need to see if I can get 300,000 miles on my Jeep by the end of 2021.... :)

That's too bad about the ice caves, thanks for keeping an eye on them.

Yep... my IR conversion will be back in 3 weeks I hope, then I should look into that DJI Mini 2 drone. I could have enough gear that I make a list and every day of the week I just switch to a different Platform.

Monday - DSLR's
Tuesday - IR Camera
Wednesday - Drone
Thursday - Film
Friday - Deep Space Astro

Sat and Sun - Processing

Oh man, I forgot timelapse.... Well, actually I can do Timelapse with each of those 5 platforms. :)

Thanks so much Alan. A lot of luck here. I am just glad to have been in the right place at the right time.
