I'd gone down to the Sand Dunes one other time to catch the sunflowers in bloom. I thought they were pretty good. This year, the number of them far outdid that year. The smoke from the fires filtered the sun a bit, but wasn't nearly as bad as in the Denver Metro area (it didn't hurt my lungs down in the Sand Dunes). The sky was a bit smudgy, but it also filtered out my shadow a bit, so I was able to shoot with the sun at my back with a 90 or 45mm lens.

The 1st one is very nice but for some reason the 2nd image has some nice lines/curves and of course the "visual irony" of the flowers against the sky

Thanks, Dan. I'm going to have to let the term "visual irony" roll around in my brain for a while since this is the 1st time I've heard/seen it.

That first one is fantastic, Monika. The ripples act as lead-in lines and then you have the diagonal lines of the dunes. In the second one I think you would have liked it if you got much closer to the sunflowers and used to them to emphasize the foreground.

I may have some like that for the 2nd one. I still haven't gone through all of my shots from there yet.
