Sunset at Morton's Overlook

It took close to 10 years...but I finally got a good sunset with atmosphere at Morton's Overlook in the Smoky Mountains. The best light and color was well after "sunset"...so glad we were one of the few that stuck around for it.

If anyone is interested in the post production, 5 frames bracketed, blended using luminosity and layer masks and manual blending.

There is some nice layering with the mountain ridges fading off to the distance that grabs my attention and pulls my focus out to the nice fading light. Fun colors in the high clouds above too. Glad you stuck around for the show.

That’s a nice view you got Travis! I am glad you stuck around too, I have found that quite often the sun is rather shy and will only show its colors after most of the people have left.

The layers are one of my favorite things in the Smokies, lots of options from wide to narrow FoV. Thanks Alan.

Thanks Jim. Yeah, I always try to stick around...it usually results in better color and easier editing!

Nice one Travis.
Thank you Ben.

I realy like the layers in this, and the tones. Curious what camera/lens your using ?
Thank you David.

EXIF:
Sony A7R2
Zeiss Batis 18mm
ISO 50 - f/9
A range of 5 images bracketed was used to generate luminosity masks, and lightly, manually blend in the trees and layers due to the wide Dynamic Range of the scene.

beautiful light and contrast, the colors are so rich.
Thank you...I have to admit...my favorite thing about the switch to Sony is the richness of color.

oh man...very nice! love the different tones in here...warm...cold...all well balanced.
Thanks Sunny, glad you picked up on that, I really liked the warm/cold balance on this...it was a focus of the edit for sure.
