Sunset wave and clouds

Very nice Alan! I like that huge ripple of water in the foreground, and the color that is developing is awesome.

It looks like you focus a lot on timing also and getting that leading water edge to look just right. I know as I shoot a lot of beach shots here on the west coast that one of the things I watch closely is that incoming water and the shapes that it takes. I will attempt to capture it exactly when the water forms a really nice curve or curves which will lead into the shot and add some great interest.

You got a nice batch of images out of this sunset. I like the cloud layer that is setting up for the color show. Nice golden sky with no clouds out along the horizon - definitely a good time to be out there with your camera.

Very different coastline to photograph compared to what I typically see along the Pacific coast. I am used to always having a low layer of clouds out along the horizon waiting to snuff out all the colors most of the time.

Haven't shown any others from this shoot, but, yes, I completely understand how much of a drag it is when low clouds come in on the Pacific Coast. One of the reasons I no longer live there.

It was a placid evening on the Gulf. Sunset itself was too bright, but these high clouds really took on great color later. For this one, I took advantage of a passing boat. Knew it would throw a wake. Used that for my foreground. Think it works.
Other shots from this sequence have that sandbar totally reflective, with calm water. Such a pleasure to get to shoot in great light, and have time to think about it. Usually, great light passes so quickly.
