Super Bloom 2019.

The flowers in Carrizo Plain National Monument and Antelope Valley were exquisite last week as you can tell from the wonderful mages Jim and Johnny have posted. I too visited both areas and the wind gusts up to 35 miles per hour made photography tough in Antelope Valley as did the hoards of people crawling all over the hills taking selfies. I did a lot of photography outside of the Poppy Reserve because I am not a big fan of selfish crowds. Carrizo Plain was much better with light winds and many fewer people. Here are two of my favorite images, one from each area.

These are two really awesome shots Doug! You really got some great color too. And yeah, that wind was something else in Antelope Valley, pretty crazy.

It's too bad we didn't get to connect, hopefully next time we can get out and shoot together.

Nice shots Doug! I love all the purples in the pictures. Without those "this is not a trail" laminated signs on the ground at the Poppy Reserve, that place would be destroyed in a weekend. I hate zoos locations like that, mostly why I didn't go to Walker Canyon which was probably worse than the Poppy Reserve?
There are plenty of poppies not in the reserve that are worth visiting, with fewer people

Doug,
Love the owl clover mixed in with the poppy's. Great shots! The first is my favorite.

Outstanding, Doug! Wind & selfish/selfie-taking people really make wildflower photography tough.

It would have been fun to enjoy this fantastic bloom together, Jim. Thanks for the kind comments.

Thanks for the kind comment, Monika. I had spotted an incredible field of flowers in an out-of-the-way area and sure enough, it wasn't long before cars started pulling over. Two women and their children hopped out of a car, walked into the field and sat and laid down in the flowers taking pictures of themselves. The children then began to romp around stomping flowers. I finally went over to them and reminded them that Mojave Rattlesnakes frequented these fields and they got the hint and left.
