Temple Timelapse

A Timelapse from Temple of the Sun and Moon at night. This is a short 3 second Timelapse, I wish it was longer now, but it's something I usually forget to do even.

All comments are welcome,

Love it Jim, when did you do this?
When you were sleeping. :)

The Temples were being lit up by the moon, the stars were poking through the clouds and I love the mystery that the clouds can provide with the stars at night. So Alisa and I set up and shot the Temples with the stars for an hour or so before jumping into our vehicles to catch a quick catnap before getting up with you at 1am to shoot the Milky Way. That's why I was just napping in my front seat when you came and knocked on my window, I didn't think it was worth the hassle to climb into the back of my jeep for just 2 hours of sleep.

Looks good, but too short as you say. For time-lapse I normally set my camera to shoot at least 400 shots, which translates to about 12 sec of video. Of course the The downside is that if that is your main camera you might as well go to bed and let it do it's thing because you can't use it for other individual night shots. Good excuse to buy a new camera so you can dedicate the old one to time-lapse 😉

Thanks Jim!

I didn't set out to do a timelapse, it just worked out that way that as it was shooting I thought it could make a good timelapse.

As for cameras, this was shot with my D810, which is one of my backups. I can often be shooting with 4 different cameras that I bring with me when I travel, so dedicating 1 to a timelapse isn't an issue, I just need to actually plan on doing a timelapse so that I can get enough shots as you noted.

I loved it Jim, however short. I was sort of expecting Superman to fly through though.

We don't have scenes like here, but I'd like to try some practice shots. What settings at 20 sec exposure for a scene like this?

Great job.

Other than jumping out of my skin when the music started at full volume :)D) I loved it. It is of course too short, but as you say, beats forgetting to do one at all. Cool idea, let's see a longer one next time!

Thanks Bart!

There was nothing really special about the 20 seconds, that was simply what the exposure called for. Basically you want 20 to 30 seconds it seems between images. So the 20 second exposure helped in that I didn't need to set up the intervalometer to delay the next photo. If you are shooting at night, it all depends on what lens you have. Typically your exposures will be between 20 to 30 secs and you shoot wide open. You then just adjust your ISO so that your histogram when you take a photo is somewhere around 1/3 from the left. No more then 1/2.

If you need more specifics, just let me know what you would be shooting with as far as a lens goes.

Ha ha, that’s funny about the music! :)

Yeah I will need to work on a longer one.

I almost always use the Canon 24-70 II; but I just might try with the 11-24 F4. Around here, I can't get a fg that light, unless I include a lake or river (the most likely candidates).
