The Chocolate Drops

The Chocolate drops are visible from many campsites in the Maze district, but the Maze Overlook provides the closest view. I was perhaps 100 feet from my parking spot when I took this. Light is rather harsh but as you can see, waiting until closer to sunset would have increased the shadow in front of teh formation.

The light looks soft to me Ben, if it was harsh you would never know from your photo. Good job!

And shadow lines are a pet peeve of mine, so I totally agree with you about that.

Thats an incredible vista and you have nailed the lighting.

I love it how folks on this forum sometimes recognise these shots as ones they have seen themselves and talk about them as old friends! I fully expect a guided tour if i ever get over to the States!

I just got back from another trip. You can see the chocolate Drops from Green River Overllook if you know where to look.

Graeme, not too many people visit this part of canyonlands. It gets about 1.5% of the annual visitation,.
