This image is of 2 well-known nebulae one more so than the other. The Horsehead Nebula made famous by Hubble is a diffuse dark nebula found in the Orion Molecular Cloud Complex in the constellation Orion and is approximately 1,500 light-years from us.The palette chosen here was HSO which more or less equates the normal pinkish glow of hydrogen to a more dramatic hue of oranges and yellows. The other well-known Flame Nebula is an emission nebula lit by a star within which is 20 times the mass of the Sun. It is 6 light-years wide and is also a part of the star forming region of the OMCC.
