The Peregrine Falcons at Torrey Pines State Nature Preserve, CA

This time of year Peregrine Falcons nest in the sandstone cliffs at Torrey Pines State Nature Preserve, CA. Eric Gofreed and I decided to go and photograph them on Thursday and Friday so we will be posting these images over the next few days. It is an amazing thing to watch as the juveniles practice their aerial acrobatics with each other. Anyone who wants to photograph or even just watch should get there within the next week before these wonderful birds leave. Here are a couple of sedentary images to start the postings.

Great set Douglas. While I really like the beach/iceplant first one, the second is over the top. Is the third a repeat?

Really awesome Doug! I like both but especially #2. That’s great that you and Eric got out there.

Was there a certain viewpoint that you shot from?

Yes, drive up the hill until you reach the first parking location on the right and park there. Then walk up the hill a bit to the Guy Fleming trailhead and walk on the path stay right at the fork until you get to the Agaves on the left where there is a bench. Get ready anywhere along the hilltop overlooking the ocean below. They do their acrobatics in this area going back and forth. It's better than a performance of Cirque du Soleil. You should definitely get there to see it.
