The Sun Sets on the Badlands

This is sunset at the Badlands of South Dakota last month. There was a cool layer of clouds in this direction catching the sunset colors that I looked pretty neat. It was a low layer of clouds though, it didn't cover much of the sky and was just along the horizon, so I went with a 16x9 crop to lose the blue sky above the clouds.

I like the gradation of color from the skies down to the bottom of the frame. Very colorful.

Jim, it works well.. to me that amount of sky and color adds to the scene without detracting from your main event.. which is really beautiful by the way

Thanks so much Ben! I was happy when it dawned on me 3 or 4 years ago that the Badlands were not too far from my daughters, 5 or 6 hours. It’s a place I had been drooling over for years, so it was so awesome to find that it was so close when I am at her house,
