I usually go to the Tetons in fall, but I had a friend from Texas who wanted to visit in July, so I picked him up at Salt Lake Airport and drove us up for a week in mid July. A week is also longer than I normally spend and with another photographer, we were able to cover it pretty thoroughly.
I have a few I consider keepers and will post them at the landscape forum in time. These are Places that we tried and consider off the beaten path enough to share here with some descriptions. You can Google them for directions.
1. Patriarch Tree, This is a ½ mile bushwack from the Jenny lake turn off. I had to google it and get GPS coordinates to find it as there is no trail. It used to be near an old road that is out of service.
2. Hedrick Pond. This place is reached via a road that is now cabled off. You can park at the cable and walk in the last ½ mile as it is in park land and not private property.
3. Shadow Mountain is off the Antelope Mountain road and fairly high on a 4wd road. The wild flowers here are absolutely gorgeous, but we needed to camp here so we could be there at dawn.
4. This old cabin is out Gros venture road and is seen from the road. I walked down and got inside the cabin for this image. I should have used a tripod and gone earlier in the day for a better image.
5. Teton Village Tram. We took the tram up in the afternoon and as soon as I took about 3 shots, they ordered us back to the tram because of a lightning storm. But it was too late and we ended up jammed into the waffle shop or out in the wind and rain for 2 hours until the storm passed. It is an interesting view of the Tetons, but I will probably not return.
