Unlikely Pair

I posted an otter picture recently that had an Great Blue Heron in it.

So, this was also a little unusual, and I watched these guys for about 20 minutes as the raccoon kept inching closer and closer. Not sure what the final outcome might have been, but the heron was having none of it. Not sure if the otters and raccoons like to follow the birds to find fish remnants, although I have no doubt the animals would gladly eat the herons if they have the chance (I've seen on YouTube). Just something I've only seen once, although you only see everything once I guess....

Wish it would have been a little sharper, but this was a long distance and cropped quite a bit.

Very interesting catch with this one. Trying to sneak up on the herons in the wild is next to impossible so long lenses are the key. Getting the raccoon in the frame as well is a serious bonus.

Nice catch here Craig, I used to have raccoons and herons both visit my koi pond in Spokane, the herons swallowed them whole so no remains. The raccoons ate just the heads and left the rest.
