Two more great photos, Alan. It looks like this Red-necked Grebe has plenty to say about nest duty! Sitting on eggs all day and night isn’t a thrill ride—perhaps he’s filing a formal complaint with his mate about the long shift!

Thanks Eric. Both male and female were quite vocal calling to each other. Their nests are so close to shore that they don’t spook when people pass by unless there is a direct approach toward the nest.

For this week and next, I’m featuring birds with Chestnut in their name. Chestnut is such an unusual word—aside from Chestnut Trees, Horse Chestnuts, and Chestnut Mushrooms, I rarely see it outside of bird names.
