My contributions for today's winged Wednesday are birds I photographed at Lake Pleasant a few days ago.

Turkey vulture-02929-Edit.jpg

A turkey vulture playing tug-o-war with a large carp. Reminds of the last time I had lunch with my brother, Andy. The waiter put the check on the table and I picked it up. Andy grabbed it and we played tug-o-war over who would pay. Andy pulled harder. As he won the Tug, he simultaneously pulled his lunch into his lap. And I said, "I guess lunch is on you today, Andy"

I have a slightly different wings offering today. I was flying around a local parkway along Salmon Creek a couple of weeks ago and just happened to drop the gimbal down to see exactly what I was over at the time and noticed some ducks so I switched to telephoto mode. I have never considered a drone to be a useful birding camera and doubt you get any honest closeups with such a noisy camera (my drone isn't exactly stealthy) but it did give me a unique view with all of the ripples on the water.

I just returned from a trip to B.C. A cousin took me to the Reifel Bird Sancturay in Lader near Vancouver. They let people feed the ducks with food you purchase there ,so some were quite tame. It was fun shooting the Wood Ducks as they are so colourful. I also saw my first Golden-crowned Sparrow and Cackling goose so it was quite a wonderful trip.

Thanks Trent - from a Mavic 3 at 120' using the 162mm telephoto lens. I didn't expect to see the ducks in the first place when I was scanning with the wide angle lens but when I saw them I switched to the telephoto lens. Normally I fly at 250-300' if I know I am over birds at Salmon Creek. There are lots of folks out there with long lenses on DSLRs and I do not wish to scare off their subjects.

Nice interplay of the circles of ripples. I might even be tempted to crop in on the four ducks to emphasize those ripples.

This is pushing the limits of the resolution of this camera quite a bit but here is the suggested crop. The original I posted above was already a crop from the original frame.
