My contribution for today's Winged Wednesday, is the ubiquitous Mallard. Few can deny the beauty of the Mallard.

Mallard Drake has the distinctive dark, iridescent-green head and bright yellow bill.

The male and female have a blue wing patch with white-borders

Great Mallard images, Eric, especially the sequence images. I love the speculum on ducks wings and you have captured some nice ones here.

Great photo as expected, Doug. such a handsome thing. I haven't had a good shot of one in years and I have yet to see one foraging like a flycatcher. They don't have the typical woodpecker's undulating flight pattern with flapping wings then tucked wings and glide. Instead, Lewes's have a steady wing beat with minimal gliding

I am back to my stash of seagull shots and in this case with the Tillamook Lighthouse as a backdrop near Cannon Beach.

Fantastic Mallard shots Eric, perfect lighting and focus. #2 is my favorite to show all the male's beautiful color. I see them at my local lake a couple times a week but don't try to shoot them. If I lived down there I guess I'd be more of a birder than I am.

Gorgeous photo. I love birds in their habitat like this one as they're usually much more interesting than a close-up photo.
