Winged Wednesday 7/1/2020

My contribution for Winged Wednesday is the Two-tailed swallowtail (Papilio multicaudata). Ideally, the background should be velvety smooth to minimize distraction from the swallowtail. The goal is to isolate the star of the photo from the backgound and let the shape, colors and details prevail. The next goal for a dorsal butterfly is to have the wings wide open and symmetrical... revealing the details, colors and patterns on the wings., dorsum, head and antennae.

regrettably, the butterfly didn't cooperate and I failed to get the perfect background on the dorsal view. However, both wings are wide open and symmetrical.

This is the ideal background because it does not compete with the butterfly and all his glory.

My wings for today are from a small zoo near Arcata California. I have no idea what this bird might be but it looked like it was having some attitude issues so I call it Grumpy Bird.

That is gorgeous, Craig. I love the compatibility of the leaves with his breast color. This is one of my favorite birds.

That's a cool one Craig! It's interesting that the breast looks like a robin, but it has all of those spots on the wings.

This was from 2 weeks ago, after shooting Bison in Carr, Colorado we drove across the border into Wyoming and found this cool pond at a park in Cheyenne.

Thanks much Eric, I liked the the dragonfly also. The way the head attaches to the body looks like it has a lot of mobility to move in a lot of different directions. Sony a7riv in crop mode, w/ Sony 600mm f/4 w/ 2X teleconverter and then cropped quite a bit more brought the view in pretty close.

the rufous sided towhee was the bird that made me a birder 50 years ago. Superb photo
