    Crispy

What is DR? I assume you mean the range of light and shadow that can be captured. But, here's the thing, in PS, using layers, you can get a a wider range than is even what your eyes see. This, to me, does not look real.

Hi Jim. I only use Lightroom, because I am not smart enough to figure out Photoshop. Like the idea of layer masks--but, want to make sure those layers look real.

    Crispy

It is crisp and looks like a great place to be, but the colors do not look right to me, and shadows too open. Did you do this in PS with a layer mask? If not, May I ask what your settings were in LR?

    Mesquite Dawn

Think an extra bit of temp overall would be worth trying. It would help the foreground sand, and also the right side of the dune. This would give a better idea of light direction, and balance the composition. If that works, you could then desaturate the small left dune.

    Mesquite Dawn

I like the new version. Sand and mountains look more natural. It's a better combination of hues.

    Another Sunburst

Fantastic to see in person, frustrating to process. Think this looks ok on screen, probably would not print.

Too much contrast. Or, does it work?

    Sounds good. Trying my best.

Too much contrast. Or, does it work?

Good to have fun, but my goal is to be great.

    Capitol Reef Cracks

Beautiful scene, might be even better of the foreground was not so light. I think everything could be darker.

Too much contrast. Or, does it work?

Thought about using a grad to bring down the clouds, but then determined it would not look "real". As for brushing on black point--nice. But I've got the old version, not CC. Might have to upgrade. I would like to have that feature.

Too much contrast. Or, does it work?

Usually I don't like the sunburst effect with small apertures. There is a lack of color variation here, too, which I don't like. But, it does capture a mood. Used everything I know about LR to do it. When I get smarter, I might get Photoshop. But for now I''m still figuring out Lightroom.

Too much contrast. Or, does it work?

Took this one just for fun, thought it would not work. Single file in LR. Has the feel of a Winter Sunburst, but..does it seem gimmicky? Usually I rely only on sweet light.

    Toroweap sunset

I'd say the light was just not right. If the light is not right, there is no way to save a photo.

Does this look real to you?

Or, maybe the white point is too high. Tough shot to get right. Not sure if it will ever work.

Perfect reflection at the Old Man of Storr, Isle of Skye

Why did you blur out that out a section of the foreground? Otherwise it would be nice.

Google Emerald Coast Images, and you will see the water really is that color. It's on the panhandle region of Florida. I live here now, because I like the beach. As a California Liberal, I do not like the "culture" here. But the opportunities to take beautiful pics make me stay.

    Icon Alert: Yei Bi Chai

Ok, fine, but I'm going to say that there is a way to determine if a pic sings a song, or tells a story. Good photos are not just representations of things that have already been seen. They are new ways of seeing, or new ways of interpreting things that have already been seen. Telling the same...

    Icon Alert: Yei Bi Chai

Here is my theory of photos--good ones, I mean--they should sing a song, or tell a story. There should be a beginning, a middle, and and end. And there should be point to the story. Or, a reason for the song. Sometimes, the beauty of the song is good enough, in itself--but that is rare. So many...

Does this look real to you?

Thanks. Maybe I should darken the water. I'm on the "Emerald Coast"--famous for really green water. Amazing, how green it appears. Do a Google search for Emerald Coast water, and take a look. It is amazing1
