    Thursday’s Task

I have found images taken within 10 paces of a road. I have a friend who called these "Cavalier" shots because she could take them standing beside her car a Vauxhall (A British offshoot of GM) Cavalier. All from Scotland Buachaille Etive Mor A small Lochan in Glencoe Seiebost Beach, Isle of...

A trip to highland Scotland #2 Loch Morlich

Loch Morlich lies under the Cairngorm mountains. When we arrived the wind was calm and the rain/ snow had stopped I had weather radar on my phone and waited for what I hoped was heavy snow, it was snow but tiny flakes that do not show up well in photographs. I did find a nice view at 200mm on...

    A trip to highland Scotland

Last. week we spent 4 days in the highlands. We almost cancelled the trip as the forecast looked like 4 days of rain/ sleet/ snow but in the end we wrapped up well and went. I am starting with a series of high key landscapes taken in the Cairngorm mountains. There are 4 peaks above 4,000 ft...

    Thursday’s Task

Another 3 from Fountains Abbey. Spring is showing in multiple ways, firstly people aren't wearing winter coats, the daffodils are out and that lovely first flush of foliage has appeared on some of the trees, if you look closely between the 2 trees you will see a swan sitting on its nest, the...

    Fountains Abbey

I was in Yorkshire on Wednesday and had a few hours spare so visited Fountains Abbey a ruined 12thC Abbey. At its height in the 13thC it house 400 monks and 800 lay brothers and even in its present ruined state it is awe inspiring. It was a very rich Abbey up until 1539 and the dissolution of...

Winged Wednesday 3/18/2026 — Lake Pleasant

A pheasant, perhaps the most stupid bird in nature. Despite their colourful plumage, they hide well until they spot you, then they make very loud noises and take off flying straight, low and slow, just perfect for people who are not good shots. Native of Asia but introduced to Western Europe by...

    More flowers from the garden

Thank you Alan. Unfortunately we have a little storm coming through, nothing dangerous but 50+mph winds and heavy driving rain has flattened the crocuses but the daffodils seem to have survived, perhaps tomorrows snow might kill them off too. Ken

    More flowers from the garden

I had been using the trial version of Helicon Focus but my time has passed so I used Photoshop for these. 70 60Mp files as photoshop layers slows my fairly high end computer down but Helicon is much faster with better output especially with more complex images. Ken

    More flowers from the garden

All focus stacked, some with as many as 70 images. Unfortunately a slight breeze has taken the edge off of the sharpness but I think that they are still interesting. The next 3 are from very short lived conditions with me trying to get the images captured before the morning sun melted the...

    Flowers in the garden

After weeks of drab, wet, cloudy and windy weather Spring almost arrived today. The wind died down, but didn't stop and the sun came out after a light frost. These are 3 different crops from a series of 34 focus stacked images using the auto focus stacking capabilities of the A7RV and a Sigma...

    Waterfall Wednesday 2/18/2026

Low Force last week with light snow falling. Lots of waterfalls in the North of England are called Force or sometimes Foss and just like in Iceland where there are many Foss the word came originally from Norse. Unfortunately the English Foss are a lot less spectacular. Ken

    Waterfall Wednesday 2/11/2026

Last week in Deepdale. From the same valley as last weeks waterfall post. I have been experimenting with reducing polarisation to make the wet rocks sparkle a bit. I wanted to move a bit to the left but the rocks were dangerously slippery so I walked about 100yds downstream where it was easier...
