Iceland's basaltic rocks, shaped by the power of the weather, feature incredible shapes: this is Gatklettur under the storm, a black & white image created in Iceland during a Workshop I led there in February 2018. Leica SL, Voigtlander 15mm and Formatt-Hitech Firecrest Ultra filters.

The Crumbling Cliffs at Valahnukamol in Iceland are a wonderful source of inspiration, and I love to explore them to find cracks with shapes complementing or mirroring the sea stacks and the clouds. Taken at sunset during a Workshop One-on-One in Iceland in February 2018 with my Leica SL, a...
Iceland in winter is amazing, looking for ice and snow patterns on the black sand at Reynisdrangar is extremely inspiring and makes enduring the cold definitely worth it. We had a great time during my Workshop there last February! Leica SL, Leica Vario-Elmarit-SL 24-90mm @ 24mm and filters...
Iceland is every photographer’s dream. The landscapes created by ice and fire during millennia of geologic violent events and then shaped by the forces of erosion are unique and impressive in any season, under any light and any weather. Next spring, I’ll put my knowledge of Iceland to photograph...
Seljalandsfoss is one of the most famous and photographed waterfalls in Iceland, most known for being photographed from behind the water. Since I like to go to Iceland in winter, both for my Workshops and for my personal work, that is never possible: the access to the waterfall's back is closed...
I saw the colors from sunset reflecting in the shoreline, and moved quickly to find a composition where the lines led toward the colorful cloud in the background. This angle worked for me.
Here's a view of Gullfoss from up above the falls. The wind was howling - not only did I hang my bag from my tripod, I also had to increase the ISO to 400 to minimize the shutter speed and hold the tripod down with my body weight. I took a few shots and then moved closer to the falls, which was...
The view looking away from Haifoss in Iceland. I was considering leaving my 100-400mm lens at home to save some weight. So glad I brought it with me as it was one of my most used lenses on this trip.
This was the first waterfall site we visited during our recent trip. We held out for a decent sky and this was about as good as it got. This was at nearly midnight in mid-June.
I took this from the road heading toward the Vestrahorn, looking across the bay toward Höfn in southeast Iceland. Blessed with beautiful sunset colors that just kept glowing.
Any thoughts are welcome.
It never gets dark in Iceland in mid-June. Dusk is about as dark as it gets. Arnarstapi is on the western peninsula south of Kirkjufell. We spent a lot of time here and some of it just to enjoy the beauty.
Standing across the Haifoss waterfalls and looking down river one can see forever. And where the water had just come crashing down, it now meanders through the valley.
When we arrived at this site, the skies were flat an not interesting. However, with most scenes in Iceland, hang out for a while and the weather is likely to change. We were rewarded with some contrast in the skies to which a long exposure worked well directionally to give rays of light.
After shooting Seljalandsfoss the night before, we camped just down the road. This was the view I had waking up in the morning. I certainly didn' t want to leave! This is a 6 minute exposure using a 15 stop ND.
This is an incredible waterfall and one of the highest in Iceland. We had 45 mph winds while at the top giving us pause as we got close to the edge of the cliff.
There is an issue with Uploading Photos (attachjments). I am not sure what the problem is, and I am looking into it. You can still try to Create your Threads and Upload your Photos, but it is hanging up during the Upload.
